Chairman Julia Chin and The Old Codgers, Des Hellicar-Bowman, Mark R. Outwaite and Nigel Morris-Cotterill all agree that the purpose of the "ESG" movement is welcome. And all agree that the approaches adopted are either not appropriate or doomed.

They all agree that while the direction of travel is such that this subject will inevitably result in it ending up in the areas of both financial crime risk and compliance, the reasons that it will do so are many and varied, in part because the ESG industry has objectives but no defined route there, leaving companies scrabbling to comply with vague demands which often are in conflict with the economic, social and cultural position in countries other than that of their headquarters.
