FRAUD ALERT: HAPPENING RIGHT NOW

Old Malaysia hands know the name MalaysiaKini. It's a highly regarded online newspaper that over the years has found itself raided and its computers confiscated because it upset someone in power. That is important because it creates a feeling that MalaysiaKini would not post anything that might offend anyone in power. 

Like the Prime Minister. And that's an important snippet, too. 

Anwar Ibrahim has been travelling meeting leaders of countries that he hopes will help stabilise Malaysia's future economy if trade winds from the USA buffet it. So it is unlikely that he's been holding meetings about a spectacular venture that has nothing to do with those leaders. Anwar (in Malay culture, the surname comes first) has made a number of pronouncements about "Artificial Intelligence" and how, in his view, Malaysia can benefit from becoming a development centre. He is also a strong supporter of the common man: determined that his government concentrates on helping those who need it rather than those who want it.  So, that's the warm up. 

Now comes the reality.

Using a copied graphic of the MalaysiaKini website, a supposed news aggregator called NewDomainWebsite .com has the headline "The world's first AI-powered HALAL investment platform led by billionaires and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Malays can make over RM180.000 from RM1200 investment"

The story is that Anwar personally created a group containing Elon Musk's SpaceX, Bank Negara Malaysia (the central bank), someone from Petronas, the state owned oil and gas company and "Quantum AI Platform" have combined to create an investment platform that will produce a near-guaranteed return because "AI" will do the analysis and trading. Give then MYR1,200 per month and you'll get at least 150 times that back every month. 

Say after me: if it sounds too good to be true, it's too good to be true.

The pressure on the reader is relentless but only what we have seen in other "investment" fraud promoted by the false use of celebrities' endorsements.

On M 1, 2025, Bank Negara Malaysia and Value Partners Group announced on the social network X (Twitter) the launch of a new platform, which quickly went viral across all national news channels.

They claim that the xTrader AI HALAL project, developed using artificial intelligence, will enable any investor who starts using the platform today to earn a passive income of at least RM156,000 per month with a minimum investment of just RM1,200 through cryptocurrency trading, achieving financial independence in the shortest possible time.

Analysts have studied the algorithm with different investment amounts and concluded that RM1,200 is the optimal minimum amount for the platform's algorithm to function effectively.

But the promotors have made a number of glaring errors. For example, Anwar almost never misses the opportunity to promote his vision, that of a "madani government" and he also usually refers to the citizens of Malaysia as "the rakyat."

Neither of those two expressions appear in any of his supposed support for the scheme. The pitch goes on...

Why Is It Only for Malaysian Citizens?

Anwar Ibrahim stated that a great deal of effort went into developing the platform, and he wants Malaysian residents to be the first to benefit from it. The project was created with the support of Malaysian companies, so initial access is reserved for citizens of the country.

Additionally, there are plans to expand globally and become the number one platform in the investment sector.

Limited slots will be available for participants, ensuring high and stable income. For those who have long wanted to enter the world of investing and start earning from stocks, cryptocurrencies, and precious metals, this is a golden opportunity not to be missed.

Also, the message is crafted to catch as many search engines as possible which is why the supposed investments are so unfocussed. 

And, of course, there is the need for readers to hurry. The need for speed is emphasised throughout. 

Talking of speed, the promotion is new. It came to our attention less than five hours ago and in that time, more than 150 complimentary comments have been posted. WMLR simply does not believe them. Some are facile, the kind of nonsense that people post just to see themselves in print. Others are clearly lies. Most are the phrases we see over and over again used to encourage people to sign up, saying how easy it is, how the staff were helpful, and so on. 

But the thing is: the links do not go to MalaysiaKini (which is innocent in this). Nor do they go to anything related to e.g. Bank Negara Malaysia. Instead it goes to"https://foundersgrowthlab.com". 

It appears to be a bitcoin trading platform with a front end pretending to be for the XTrader Halal product. And it's not licensed in Malaysia. The domain was purchased by a fake entity in Reykjavik from NameCheap, one of the domain registrars we often see as providers of criminal domains. As if that's not enough, its actual location is hidden behind a Cloudflare DNS, a system we are familar with because Cloudflare provides anonymisation services for criminal enterprises and refuses to provide details of the actual DNS to victims. We know - we've had run ins with them over the years. Oh, and the domain name was registered less than a month ago. There is nothing to indicate there is anything other than a fraud here. 

But it's just as likely to not be a bitcoin trading platform but instead a fake platform that takes money from victims, perhaps runs a ponzi scheme, but in any case the operators run off with the money collected. 

It's a slick operation and it's designed to trick the many Malays, in particular, who think that the term "halal" means everything is safe and good - and that nothing could go wrong. 

But the platform uses the word "halal" but there is nothing "halal" about it. Equally, it is unregulated in its target market. 

And those ringing endorsements by users in the past couple of hours?

Here are some - just don't believe them.
