If there is ever a story that generates pan-politics humour, it's hubris. And there is one that is spreading faster than the right-wing trolls can react, in part because so many of the right-wing trolls are just as amused as the left.

In an utterly simple scam, someone has printed, on paper, a message that the holder will be entitled to unspecified but very valuable benefits when Trump returns to the White House and that the price they pay for that piece of paper will help to ensure that wondrous victory.

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of this story, which is gripping the USA's media in a most unusual way (outlets are writing stories, not just pasting stuff from newswires) is that it's not new. In fact, the scheme has been around for about a year. But what is recent is that victims have only recently realise that they've been duped and that the scam has no connection to Trump, his re-election campaign or the ubiquitous "MAGA" campaign. It turns out that they would have had more value if they'd bought a MAGA cap.

The fraud was simple but it had some interesting features. It had nothing at all to do with Crypto, literally nothing, but it played on the connection many feel to crypto by giving its products three letter acronyms.

So Trump Bucks was referred to as "TRB" - a bit like BTC, etc.

There was a range of items from "TRB Systems." They were TRB voucners and TRB Golden Checks (cheques).

The breathless - machine generated - commentary on this YouTube video presses the point that it's to show support for Trump.

Somewhat hilariously, it warns against buying fake product from fraudulent websites.

"NBC News has identified the Colorado-based companies behind the Trump Bucks as Patriots Dynasty, Patriots Future and USA Patriots and reviewed dozens of social posts, online complaints and hundreds of misleading ads for the products. "

Underpinning the scam appears to be something not very different to "commemorative coins" and the like. But there is clear illegality in this case.
