That's a shame because, so far, politics has lagged far behind the geo-political spreadsion of organised crime groups failing to protect nations from foreign criminal syndicates who have set up shop with apparent impunity.

Money, drugs and guns - and people trafficking and smuggling - are real, not virtual, world crimes and they need attention just as much, and earlier, than crimes that are trendy because someone talks about technology.

The fact is that Europol does, in its report, pay attention to those real-world offences and is not discounting them in favour of a flavour of the month. And it is looking at how technology facilitates and hides the illegal conduct and that is exactly the right approach.

It is focussed on the conduct, not on the tech, in a welcome change of approach that we noticed a few days ago in a case in the USA.
