Sextortion's next phase.

Friday, 17 February, 2023 - 04:18

You know those things: "I've been using your computer camera to film you doing stuff you'd rather keep private so send me bitcoin and I'll delete them"?

Well, maybe bitcoin is loosing its lustre for such extortion.

This has arrived, as all too often, from an address at outlook.com. The name is interesting and should assist pattern analysts to identify similar mails before they reach users. It's QW2A WAA4J
---------------------------
"Hello!

I need not to introduce myself as you can see I am Hacker Anonymous X and I have full access to your device and operating system.

I have been successfully watching you for weeks now by infecting a malware through the adult site you visit regularly. My Spy wares have also recorded a video of you masturbating and satisfying yourself. I also have access to your address book and will be happy to share these interesting videos and nude photos with your contact list and social media contacts too.

To prevent this from happening, you need to send me R10, 000.00 through Checkers / Shoprite Money Market Counter or Capitec Cash Send, email me the reference or Money Market transfer number and PIN number to : aasappaym@yandex.com

Quick tip: Go to any nearest Checkers or Shoprite with a copy of your Green ID or Card to do it now.

Once I receive the compensation (Yes consider it a compensation) I will immediately delete the videos and photos, and you will never hear from me again. I will receive a notification once this message is opened and the countdown will begin. I urge you not to ignore this warning and do the Payment ASAP.

Anonymous X

-------------------------------

So, just a straightforward cash transfer to a Yandex (and therefore anonymous) account.

The sum is interesting: R10,000.00 That appears to be Rand. That means that the amount sought is a little more than GBP450, a modest figure in such frauds.

Capitec is a South African bank, Checkers is a supermarket chain owned by Shoprite, also in South Africa.
